Training in “Transcultural skills for medical staff”

The importance of cross-cultural competencies for medical personnel is increasing in view of today’s globalized and multicultural scenario. Developing cross-cultural competencies is not just a matter of cultural sensitivity, but a fundamental necessity for effective medical practice. Doctors who are culturally competent are able to improve communication with people, offer more personalized and respectful care, and consequently achieve better health outcomes.

The topics covered will be:

1. The concept of culture and its processes

3. Multicultural self and cultural biases

3. Justifications for a cross-cultural approach

4. Intercultural differentiation (language and cultural focus)

5. Main models for working with people from different cultures

6. Principles and tools for intervention.

Pedagogical methodologies are linked to group dynamics and the participatory construction of knowledge, as well as practical exercises and role-play practices.

This project’s ambition is to promote equality and social justice by developing a training course to train medical staff to: improve communication with ethnically and culturally diverse people, increase understanding of different health practices and beliefs, learn about biases and factors that can increase disparities in treatment. In this way, medical personnel can provide more personalized and respectful care, promoting patient trust and satisfaction, and contributing to better clinical outcomes.
